A lot has happened this weekend for the San Francisco Giants. They got swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers and also had two big names of the past put on the Orange and Black.
On Friday the Giants called up second baseman Dan Uggla. Uggla hasn’t done much in the 3 games to suggest that he’s the old Uggla from the Miami Marlins days. In 3 games, Uggla has made 3 errors. Which puts him at 12 errors at second base. This has him tied for the most in Major League Baseball at that position.
Now the reason Uggla was picked up by the Giants was to see if there’s any magic left in that power bat of his. He hasn’t shown any signs of it in his first 3 games for the Giants. Uggla is 0-for-8 with 4 strikeouts, 1 walk and 1 run scored. I wouldn’t start the boo’s yet Giants fans. Lets give him some time to get in a groove cause if he gets hot, he’s got some big thump in that bat.
Saturday morning the Giants made a trade with the Boston Red Sox. They traded away two prospects (Edwin Escobar and Heath Hembree) for starting pitcher Jake Peavy. Peavy got his first start for the Giants Sunday night on ESPN. Peavy didn’t get the win and isn’t lights out, but he did bring a spark to the Giants. He plays with a lot of emotion and you can see his passion for the game when he’s on the mound. Although he didn’t get the win Sunday night, he’s going to be a big pickup for the Giants for the remainder of the season.
