Royals Rough Road Trip

The Kansas City Royals are looking to bounce back from a six game road trip that they would like to forget. The Royals went 1-5 on this road trip and in those 5 losses they were only able to score a total of 7 runs. The Royals were finally able to pull out a win on their final game of the trip against the Seattle Mariners this past Sunday.

The struggles in this road trip stemmed from a lack of run support. In their 5 losses the Royals left a total of 35 runners on base. They also went 4-35 with runners in scoring position in those losses.

To get out of this latest funk the Royals need more help from the key contributors of their offense. Last years Silver Slugger winner for the DH position Kendrys Morales is hitting an unimpressive .217 so far this year. The Royals were able to resign Alex Gordon for 4 years this offseason in free agency and through 26 games he is currently batting .205 with just 5 RBI’s. Another player that the Royals are going to need to get more out of is last year’s second runner-up in the MVP race Lorenzo Cain who is also struggling with an average of just .231.

No need for a panic in Kansas City just yet though, we are just 26 games into the season and the Royals are getting solid production out of first basemen Eric Hosmer who is batting over .300 and just had his hitting streak of 18 games come to an end. Mike Moustakas also had a great month of April with his team leading 7 home runs. Moustakas, who has had his struggles in the past, is now working the entire field instead of just being a pure pull hitter.

With more production out of Morales, Gordon, and Cain the Royals should be able to gain some ground on the hot Chicago White Sox in the AL Central.

I'm a simple man. I like baseball and I write primarily on the Kansas City Royals. Don't count me out for other things however.
