Christmas has come and gone… There’s still big bats left wrapped up and waiting to be handed out to a lucky fan-base. Outfielders J.D. Martinez and Jay Bruce are still waiting to see where they’re going to call home. Let’s also not forget about first baseman Eric Hosmer.
You would think this domino would have fallen by now. However, it seems all teams are in wait mode. Most of the baseball world seems to think he’s going to sign with the Boston Red Sox when it’s all said and done. He also would be a really good bat in the middle of the San Francisco Giants lineup, but the Giants always seem to be looking for a stellar defensive player as well.
The 30 year-old outfielder is coming off another good season with the power bat. Bruce put up 36 homers with the New York Mets (29) and Cleveland Indians (7). The team that keeps popping up as a perfect fit is the Giants.
Word on the street is the San Diego Padres are on the verge of offering Hosmer a 6-year, $120 million dollar contract. The Padres don’t seem to be ready to compete in the NL West just yet, so it’s unclear as to why Hosmer would want to sign there. If other offers aren’t coming in, then he better sign before the Padres decide to wait another year before trying to make a big splash.
